Josh Gant, Naturalist for the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation and Owner of Hidden Bittern Birding Co. presents They are not called Seagulls- the many gull species of New Jersey. Every summer beachgoers have to face the wrath of those rats with wings they call Seagulls. I mean really, what ecological role do they even play? What did they do before the pizza and french-fry vendors came to the shore? Here is a little secret: there are 11 species of Gulls that visit NJ annually, and none of them are called seagulls. In this presentation, we will discuss the common species of gulls and a few other similar species. Be ready to learn and laugh with our lighthearted program on these pesky birds.
Josh has been a nature lover since he was young. Growing up spending time in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, Josh spent his early years in the woods with his father, mother, and brother. As he got older he learned that he was gifted with a keen eye for observation. This led to Josh’s discovery of birding as a hobby that grew into a passion, and now, a profession. He also works as a naturalist for the Ocean County Department of Parks and Recreation leading canoeing, hiking and, of course, birding trips all over the state of New Jersey.
