Glassbrook Vocal Ensemble
In September 2023, the Glassbrook Vocal Ensemble performed at the Cape May Point Arts and Science Center, featuring their rendition of Christopher Tin’s piece, “The Lost Birds.”
“The Lost Birds is a musical memorial to bird species driven to extinction by humankind. Sweeping and elegiac, it serves as a haunting tribute to the once-soaring flocks that filled our skies, now silenced. It celebrates their feathered beauty and symbolizes hope, peace, and renewal. However, it also serves as a warning about our own precarious existence on the planet: the fate that befell these once-magnificent birds may foreshadow our own extinction.” - Christopher Tin
The evening was themed around migration, coinciding with the unveiling of the Beacon of Hope Sculpture, a special exhibit at the Cape May Point Arts and Science Center. This sculpture honors the escaped enslaved people who once traversed the grounds on which the Center now stands in their quest for freedom.
