Join Mark Garland, Project Monarch Program Director at the Cape May Point Science Center as he presents Monarch Butterflies and Cape May. The iconic monarch butterfly often occurs in huge numbers around Cape May during the southbound migration to Mexico in early autumn. Their migration through the Cape has been studied for more than 3 decades. After an overview of this butterfly’s distinctive biology, this presentation looks at past, present, and future studies of monarchs, and of their significance to monarch conservation.
Mark Garland has studied monarchs for more than thirty years, the last 23 here in Cape May. He is Director Emeritus of the NJ Audubon Monarch Monitoring Project, and currently serves as the Project Monarch Program Director for the Cape May Point Science Center.
